After the game Monday Night, a frustrated Braylon Edwards decided to blow off some steam by complaining about the fans. Edwards statements were as follows:
"I could care less about fans, media, people talking about trading me and the B.S. that's going on with our team and the season. I've got a job to do. My job is to catch the football."
"I've learned being here that I'm very unappreciated. Not in the organization, just in the eyes of the fans, the city. Since Day One I've been a marked man coming from Michigan. It's just gone that way. Even when things are good, there's heckles."
"Right now I'm having fun. We didn't win the game, but when I was out there I was lining up, I was having fun running routes and getting open, talking a little jibber-jabber back and forth and catching the ball."
One would have thought that this was enough to get someone in the organization to have a discussion with him about keeping his frustrations from going public. However, I guess we can't expect accountibility, responsiblity, or class from this organization. Profootballtalk.com reports that on Tuesday Braylon continued to fire some barbs to the Plain Dealer.
According to Branson Wright of the PD, "he said the negativity started on draft night when the media grilled him about his luxury car, a Bentley, and his school, Michigan. " He then made the following quotes:
Wow. Thanks Braylon for "resurrecting this team from the darkness". If not making the playoffs last season and a 4-10 record this season means resurrecting this team, then I would hate to see what would happen without him resurrecting the team. Apparently, last season there were no other Pro Bowl players on the Browns and Braylon played both ways to carry this team on his back. Where was his Pro Bowl invitation this season. Oh, that must have been the fans fault for not supporting him with their votes. No other player has done more damage to this team or killed more drives this season than him. This is the kind of drama that rears its ugly head when a coach coddles a player and does not hold them accountable. Braylon mentions his foundation. His efforts DID make a huge contribution to the City of Cleveland school children. He received all kinds of publicity for this. What did he want, a statue of himself downtown? The sense of entitlement and self worth that Braylon has developed after one spectacular season and 3 subpar seasons is absurd. He fails to understand that if he shut his mouth, did his job, and actually caught the football that this town would embrace him just like the previous Browns heroes he mentions.
Profootballtalk.com brings up the point that maybe Edwards is trying to pull a Chad Johnson and force a trade. If that is the case, I believe that Randy Lerner's money would be better spent elsewhere as long as the Browns could receive something of value in return. If he continues to play like he has this season and run his mouth though, his exchange value will continue to decline.
