Offseason
Browns must avoid these men like the offense did with points and touchdowns

Bill Cowher
Yeah, we've already heard the reports he said no thanks to Randy Lerner. Thank God. As early as last night, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported that
Cowher was not going to even consider coaching in 2009 and keep his job
with CBS. Another knock on Cowher was that he wanted full control of the
53-man roster. I have never been a fan of this. Being a head
coach is enough to keep anyone's plate full especially with the turn
around the Browns need. If anyone has watched Cowher commentate on CBS
recently, it is clear he is a Steelers guy and that rubs me the
wrong way. We need to do this right and Cowher to me seems like he
would only have been a ire to appease the fans.
Brian Billick
On paper Brian Billick looks like a good candidate to come in and
turn the Browns around. He was a successful coach with th Baltimore
Ravens and amassed an 85-67 overall record with a Super Bowl victory in
2000. He was billed as an offensive genius in Minnesota, but went to
the Ravens and could never quite find the personnel to run his type of
game. The Ravens were a defensive minded team and won with that game
plan. I have a feeling Billick was a product of having his players
shape the culture of the team with Ray Lewis being the leader. I can't
see his arrogant attitude going over well in Cleveland and we need
someone right now that everyone on the team will get behind.
Marty Schottenheimer
The truth is, as good as Schottenheimer may be, he is too old for
this gig. He has a great coaching tree and has turned teams around.
He also has ties to Cleveland and was here the last time the Browns
were a consistently relevant football team. As much as every one the
followed the Browns in the late 1980's loves the guy, he is not the
savior this franchse is looking for right now. If Schottenheimer did
come in, it would be for a short time and he would be grooming someone
to take over the whole time he had the job. We need someone that is
100 percent focused on turning this franchise around and is a long term fix.
