Random Thoughts: Week 16

Bengals

Here are my ramblings as the Browns get run over by the bumbling Bengals.

  • The biggest problem with this Browns team is that they can't stop the run.  The biggest key to winning in the NFL is running the ball and stopping the run.  Cedric Benson was just the latest example of a running back having a field day against the Browns.  He tallied 171 yards on 38 carries.  Hopefully this off season the Browns dedicate themselves to stopping the run.
  • Please no more talk of the Browns needing a cornerback.  The Browns just lost to a team that had two wins coming into the game and threw the ball a total of 9 times.  They ran the ball 46 times and won.  Again, if you can't run the ball and stop the run, you can't win in the NFL.
  • Putting all of Braylon Edwards' comments, dropped passes, and poorly run routes aside, the last thing a struggling player needs is more pressure on them.  With a third string quarterback, no Winslow, no Heiden, a struggling running attack, and no resemblance of a No. 2 receiver, the Browns rely heavily on Edwards and force the ball to him.  This allows defenses to focus on stopping Edwards.  This is why Leon Hall's interception return for a touchdown came as no surprise.
  • Speaking of Edwards' poorly run routes, when is this guy going to give his full effort?  Dorsey's third interception came as a result of Edwards stopping on a slant route.  We have seen this time and time again this season.  He is only interested in deep sideline routes.  Teams know he is the Browns only option and he won't go inside so covering him is not all that difficult right now.
