B... B... B... Brownies and the Jets

Scott over at Waiting For Next Year, has a solid post this afternoon rounding up the former Jets players and their migration to Cleveland, Ohio. Story here.

It seems as if Eric Mangini and George Kokinis are building depth on the defensive side of the ball. It was no secret last season that when the team was generally healthy, it was the defense that let the Browns down and blew big leads (in NFL terms anyway). Remember leading the Ravens (second meeting) and Broncos after the offense scored 27 points? How about allowing 28 points to the Cowboys and Ravens (first meeting) and 27 points, in a win, to the Bills on Monday Night?

The rule of thumb is you build through the draft, but it helps to have some depth. As Scott pointed out, cornerback Hank Poteat and defensive lineman C.J. Mosley were signed for depth.

For now, we must trust Mangini and Kokinis that they have a clear vision on an idenitiy of the Cleveland Browns, something that was severly lacking with the previous regime.

UPDATE: Hey, this guy ain't no Jet?!?!

The Browns are being paid a visit by Rams free agnet offensive lineman Adam Goldberg today, a reported by ProFootballTalk.com. Goldberg is 6-foot-7, 318 pounds and is known for versality as he started at both guard and tackle postiions for the Rams last season.

Adam Caplan of Scout.com says the Rams are interested in keeping Goldberg.

Signing Goldberg, 28, would allow him to start right tackle or, if injuires plague guards Eric Steinbach or Rex Handnot, Goldberg can slide over and allow Kevin Shaffer or Ryan Tucker to fill in at right tackle.
