Breaking news happened Wednesday night when most people were settling into watch a new episode of the "New Adventures of Old Christine" with a bowl of fresh guacamole and an ice cold beer.

Instead, some of us must had to put together a thoughtful post on the former Browns wide receiver, Joe Jurevicius, who was cut.

"These types of decisions are always difficult ones, especially with someone like Joe, who has meant a great deal to the Cleveland Browns organization and to the fans of Cleveland," said Browns General Manager George Kokinis in a team's official release on ClevelandBrowns.com. "Eric (Mangini) and I have had extensive conversations with Joe and his representatives. In the end we were unable to reach an agreement that was in the best interests of both parties. We want to thank Joe for his contributions to the Browns and wish him the best of luck in the future."

Jurevicius played in 29 games for the Browns in 2006 and 2007 and combined for 90 receptions, 1,109 and six touchdowns. Most importantly, Jurevicius and his 6-foot-5, 230-pound frame was a great target on third downs and quarterbacks could count on him making the big play. Of course, being a local boy, the fans embraced him.

The fans embraced a lot of home-grown talent during the Crennel-Savage era and generally it didn't work out (see: Bentley, LeCharles and Frye, Charlie).

Although a fan favorite, Jurevicius missed 2008 with numerous injuries. So many, in fact, I'm too lazy to list all of them.

As a local boy, we wish him the best of luck. He was a joy to watch.

First thing I thought when I heard he was cut this evening was a 2006 article by Sports Illustrated called "Home Is Where the Heart Is." Enjoy.
