Browns Hall of Fame tight end and current Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome returned to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for his ninth annual golf outing last week.
Newsome was born and raised in Muscle Shoals, Ala. He started all four seasons for the Crimson Tide before coming to Cleveland.
How long he stays in Baltimore remains to be seen, but, thankfully for Browns fans, it won't be forever.
Speculation in recent years has Newsome returning to Alabama as the school's new athletics director. Earlier this month, Alabama was put in probation for three years after 201 athletes in 16 sports received "impermissible benefits" by using schlolarships to get free textbooks for other students.
Current athletics director, Mal Moore, has received some flack for the incident.
So, Ozzie, will you like to head down south to replace Moore? Tuscaloosa News' staff writer Aaron Suttles asked Newsome that question following his round.
"You know what? I want to watch Alabama football, sit in the stands and have a good time, go to basketball games. I want to come out here and watch the golf team. That's what I want to do after I win me two more Super Bowls."
The sooner Ozzie heads south to return to Alabama the better it is for the Browns and the rest of the AFC. Newsome lost some of the love Browns fans had for him when he stuck with Art Modell and went to Baltimore. In Baltimore, Newsome has become one of the best general managers in the NFL and proved it is him who is making the right decisions for the Ravens, not his right hand man (Phil Savage).
Ozzie would be a perfect fit to break barriers in the SEC, as he has the personality and skills to become the conference's first African-American athletics director. If he joins Alabama, the school wins, the SEC wins and, hopefully, it means more wins for Cleveland and fewer for Baltimore.
