Schefter: Dawson will not kick for Browns in '09

By Don Delco

NFL Network turned ESPN NFL analysist Adam Schefter wrote a tweet today, 140 characters or less of course, regarding the Browns' 10-year veteran kicker Phil Dawson.

"Prediction based on what I'm hearing: Phil Dawson will not kick for Cleveland this season," Schefter wrote. "He wants a new contract and there's a standoff."

18751.act By default, that would leave the kicking duties to a rookie out of South Dakota State, Parker Douglass (pictured left). His name sounds like a character in a teen drama, but, no, instead of dealing with teen angst for an hour a week on the CW, he could be the place kicker for the Cleveland Browns in 2009.

The picture of him provided by ClevelandBrowns.com does not do him justice. Did this guy win a contest or something?

Anyway, a few weeks back the Voice of Reason weighed in on the Dawson situation. In summary, it is not worth paying Dawson a lot of money. According to the VOR, Dawson already had his payday.

I'm wondering, though, did the VOR realize that guy could be doing the kicking?

all sizzle and no meat. what does a players name and looks have to do with how he will play. Football isn't 'the view', so think like you got a pair.

You're right - no one ever judges football players on how they look. Not at all. Especially at the combine....
