Eric Mangini told Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson on Wednesday who will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2009. It was behind closed doors.
So, this is supposed to stay secret. After 30 minutes of practice that is open to the media today, the doors will be closed and the full-team reps will begin. At that point, the Browns players will be able to decipher who is starting, Mangini said.
When will the rest of us know? If it is up to Mangini, not until 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Realistically, will this be able to be kept a secret? Not only do you have 53 players on a team, but there are numerous coaches, trainers, ball boys and front office personnel who will be at that closed practice.
You would have to think the Cleveland media would be working their sources to find out who is getting most of the first-team reps.
Then again, you can always ask one of the two quarterbacks involved.
Derek Anderson met with the media on Wednesday after his talk with Mangini. Anderson may have spilled the beans, according to the Associated Press' Tom Withers.
"The rest of us have to go about our regular preparations," Anderson said.
Hmmm... let the deciphering begin.
UPDATE: As far as that leakage, it was more like a flood. By 2:55 p.m. Eastern, Mary Kay Cabot posted on Cleveland.com that Brady Quinn was named the starter.
We were tipped off via Twitter @DCdawgpound71 saying he read the following on Terrell Owens' Twitter account (@terrellowens): "Congrats 2 Brady Quinn 4 starting job w/Cleveland Browns!! Well all I need him to do now is WIN!!!"
