Civil war brewing among Browns fans

DPMike By Don Delco
NoLogoNeeded.com Staff Writer

So what camp do you reside in? At the Browns Monday Night Football game Nov. 16 against the Baltimore Ravens, Dawg Pound Mike has received national recognition this week. He wants Browns fans to arrive late to the game Nov. 16 thus creating a empty looking stadium for a national audience at kickoff.

Mike Randall has appeared on ESPN Radio (locally and nationally) and Sports Time Ohio, met with Browns owner Randy Lerner and Mike's Twitter account yesterday stated the Tonight Show called him.

He is frustrated with the current state of the Browns and his "late walk-in" is supposedly a way for Browns fans to show their displeasure of the suckiness of the team.

His anger is understood. There isn't a Browns fan out there who isn't upset with the team being 1-7 and showing regression from Sunday to Sunday.

Yet some think his approach is not the way to go, none better than Cleveland Frowns and Real Fans Don't Miss Kickoff.

Frowns has a excellent read that provides some balance to all the pro-media coverage Dawg Pound Mike has received in the last week:

"As we explained last week, our initial problem with the protest was that it appeared more than anything as an attempt to take personal advantage of a regressive wave of public impatience regarding the necessary reconstruction of the Browns.  Nobody questions that the Browns are a mess, that they've been a mess for a decade, and that something needs to be done about it.  Yet now, when for the first time in a decade the franchise brings in a head coach who at least appears to be trying to make the necessary structural-cultural changes, fans like Mike Randall complain that, or seek to take advantage of complaints that, the change hasn't happened overnight.  This line of complaining and its constant refrain that the team has "made no progress" on the field this season inexplicably refuses to acknowledge that one often must tear down to rebuild; that sometimes things have to get worse before they get better."

Here is Cleveland Frowns entire post, "Browns fans' stand against Dawg Pound Mike's Nov. 16 Protest."

I can't speak for my fellow staff writers here at No Logo Needed, but I have to side with Cleveland Frowns and Real Fans Don't Miss Kickoff.

For me, it comes down to the final few graphs of my post the other day, "Browns owner Randy Lerner become more outspoken."

"No doubt the Browns are in a sad state of affairs, but why not show a national audience (at least the few that still will tune in) Cleveland Browns fans don't need six Super Bowls or the latest superstar to fill the seats? There is a reason in 1995 the Browns fans fought for and won to keep the tradition, colors and history of the Browns in Cleveland ... not in Baltimore.

Of course Browns fans are mad and frustrated with the product on the field. Everyone is well aware of that fact. Yet on Monday night, against the Baltimore Ravens, pack Cleveland Browns Stadium and prove to those outside northeast Ohio that Browns fans are with this team through thick or thin."

So what camp do you reside in? If you're going to the game will you be in your seat a kickoff or standing in the concourse with Dawg Pound Mike? Let us know in the comments section or via e-mail: NoLogoNeeded@gmail.com.

Thanks, Don. You can also let us know what camp you reside in at our petition that's linked at the Frowns post.

We don't have access to the Dawg Pound listserv like Mike does, so even a decent handful of signatures here should go a long way. Hope folks who agree will pass it on.

Although the team is poor beyond words I think that being late would send the wrong message.

I suggest that all show up on time and those that would like Mangini fired and a PROFESSIONAL, EXPERIENCED, GM and COACH should wear RED!

Who wants to sign my petition to have Fame Whore Mike dragged out behind the Rock N' Roll HoF and beaten?

So this exemplifies (sp) how stupid this sitout is. Why sitout when the most exciting/consistant part of the team is on the field?! Special Teams.

I live outside Seattle but I've been a die-hard Browns fan since I was little growing up in Northeast Ohio. You can bet that I'll have the game on for the opening kickoff.

The best way to make sure a team plays hard for its fans is for the fans to cheer hard for the team, regardless of the situation. The late walk-in is the sports equivalent of a battalion of soldiers showing up late to help out other soldiers because they don't like their results. By the time they get their, the group they went to help is dead. I'm not going to do that to my team.

I hope Josh Cribbs returns the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

I complain about the Browns as much as the next fan, but this seems more disrespecful to the players than to the owner/management.

I agree with Dan. We need to support the players. They have no say in the organization/coaching etc. By sitting out the opening kickoff, that takes away from the adrenaline that they feed off of. With a season as bad as ours, they need anything and everything they can get.

I think that both of these should be kicked out of there section and out of the stadium. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM THROUGH THICK AND THIN! NO EXCEPTIONS. I will make damn sure that I am in my seat before kick off.

How 'bout not going at all! You really want to make an impact, don't buy the tickets! Lerner is making money and this Organization hasn't done a thing in 10 years! Loyality my butt! I won't give them another dime, until they put a real team on the field.

support the team, and show up early and cheer.... if you want to send a message, don't buy any souvenoirs or concession items.....

unrelated.... how about a petition NOT to have Kosar the GM!?!?!?! i do like bernie, and enjoyed his insight on the tv during preseason games, but HE IS NOT A GM.... i read where other people are asking him to get that position... NO, NO, NO...go for experience, not a fan favorite

Instead of sitting out the kick-off, I think all fans attending should start chanting "Here, We Go Brownies! Here, we Go!" about 5 minutes BEFORE kick off to let the team know we ARE behind them AND send a message to the Ravens and the rest of the nation, "we may be down, but we refuse to give up."

Look...Thank you Browns for giving me back Sundays. It's not fun to watch the Browns and it hasn't been fun for years. I've totally given up on them after 30+ years. All this gung-ho, never say die stuff is all crao, because all the Browns org cares about is getting the fan's money. Just dump the Browns...they don't derserve a thing.

I think the most important thing we can do to help the future of our team is to make sure we sell out this game on monday night !!! What top executive and coach is going to want to come here if the fans dont support their team? Also, I think fjblacknight has the right idea. If we realy want to make a point WARE RED!!! but sell out and show up on time.
