WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Can Quinn Get Anything Going?
Brady was awful against the Ravens. Baltimore brought the house and failed to respect Quinn's ability to hurt them downfield. The only difference this week is the Lions have a shell of a defense compared to the Ravens. Is the problem that Quinn doesn't have enough experience under his belt to deal with the pressure a good defense brings on him? We will find out this Sunday in what will most certainly be a sloppy, unwatchable game.

Is This the Last We Will See of Mangini?
Rumors have surfaced that if Mangini fails to beat the Lions, he will be shown the door. This is good and bad. It's good because it will give Lerner some leverage to hire a GM. That GM will have full control over who to hire who he thinks should coach the Browns. It's bad because the Browns woes this season aren't directly related to Mangini. But let's face it, life isn't always fair and Mangini may be getting the short straw.

Will The Defense Continue To Play Well?
At the beginning of the season, I thought the Browns could have a defense ranked in the top half of the NFL. I also thought the Browns could go 8-8 with the soft schedule, so, what do I know? The point is, the unit has been stepping up and should be commended for playing hard. Meanwhile, they have absolutely zero help coming from the offense. Let's hope that they can put together a dominant performance against a rookie quarterback and bad offense.

I Want To See More Of Chris Jennings
What will it hurt to give him the bulk of the carries? I want to see what we have in him. He runs hard and can make defenders miss. I know I don't want to see Jamal Lewis run directly into the back of his lineman anymore when a hole is open one gap over. Give the new guy a chance.

Did Kaluka Maiava Look Like a Legitimate Linebacker, or Was That Just Me?
Kaluka Maiva played well last week. He came up and made plays at the line of scrimmage instead of waiting for the ball carrier to come to him. He plays fast and delivers a blow. I would like to see him play beside someone other than David Bowens.

Jason Trusnick
The fact that he is starting for the Browns says two things. One, drafting David Veikuhne was an awful pick. Two, Alex Hall must have upper decked Mangini's personal toilet in a prank gone horribly wrong. Either way, Trusnick needs to not play anymore. He is just horrible.

Brady Quinn vs. Lions' secondary
One glaring statistic is the Detroit Lions are 32nd against the pass. Meanwhile, the Browns are ranked 32nd in passing. There has been some debate on whether or not Quinn can be judged yet. Here is his opportunity to get some favorable judging by lighting up the Lions' secondary.

Browns offense vs. Itself
Expanding our view of the Browns offense as a whole, it needs to show some sort of progress. It seems to get worse with every week. The Browns offense is averaging 214.3 yards per game. Find something, anything, that works and shove it down the Lions throats. Is it Chris Jennings running the ball? Screen passes to Jerome Harrison? Hell, at this point we'll take Robert Royal down the seam.

Browns front seven vs. Kevin Smith
The young Lions running back has 515 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 150 carries. As we've seen time and time again, the Browns defense is just what the doctor orders for average running backs. Two months ago, the NFL pundits were praising the Baltimore offense. Yet last Monday night the Browns defense performed quite well in slowing Ray Rice and Joe Flacco. It was an impressive performance considering, well, it was the Browns.

There is no reason the Browns defnese shouldn't continue to look solid against a Lions offense. Smith hasn't lived up to his 2009 expectations and quarterback Matthew Stafford is having the typical rookie growing pains.

Expect the Browns defense to do everything possible to put the team in position for a victory only to see the offense screw it up.

Welcome to Browns football in 2009.

Z- You know that we are having a rough season when you start working "upper decking" into your articles.

I'm going to DVR this game and might watch it Monday if what I read about it warrants the time spent.

This team has gotten to the point that they are unwatchable. I will however watch the Bengals and Squealers games only in the hope that Mr. Rogers might flatten Palmer or The Big Burger.
