Kokinis canned

George Kokinis Mug By Don Delco

Various news outlets are reporting that Browns general manager George Kokinis was fired today. As our friend Scott from WaitingForNextYear.com said on Twitter (@WFNYScott), "It's like someone just told Randy Lerner that he owns an NFL franchise."

Zing.

Let's face it, Kokinis as the Browns general manager was the biggest fraud in professional sports. Everyone knew that Mangini called the shots and only brought in Kokinis as a favor. Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network said that Kokinis didn't even know Braylon Edwards was traded.

This is only the beginning. What happens in the coming days, weeks and months is anybody's guess. Just make sure to strap, it's going to be a wild ride.

UPDATE @ 7:54 p.m.: Less than a hour since the news broke, ESPN's Adam Schefter is saying on his Twitter account the reason Kokinis was seen leaving the building, "As it was told to me, could be scouting trip or family issues."

UPDATE @ 8:08 p.m.: Sources have confirmed to the Orange and Brown Report's John Taylor that Kokinis is not heading out on a scouting trip, but he indeed has been fired

UPDATE @ 8:54 p.m.: The Orange and Brown Report is reporting that no security guards were involved. The OBR has requested, but not received an official response.

UPDATE @ 9:44 p.m.: How does Ernie and Bernie sound? According to ESPN's Chris Mortenson, Lerner is seeking to bring in former Browns GM Ernie Accorsi and join Bernie Kosar as consultants. Accorsi was the Browns general manager from 1985-92 and had the same position with the New York Giants from 1998-2007.

I just read about this on cleveland.com. A friend mentioned it to me and I didn't believe him until I saw it. I guess ESPN and Yahoo! are waiting to verify.
Hopefully Lerner starts doing his JOB.

@Damilola

It looks as if there was something positive that came out of last Sunday's game, it lit a fire under Mr. Lerner.
