The race for No. 1 (?)

Welcome to the newest feature at No Logo Needed. The weekly look at where the Browns stand in the race to April's No. 1 overall draft pick.

Much to the chagrin of Tampa Bay fans, their 38-28 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday caused the Buccaneers to lose their strangle hold on the top pick. Now, there is a five-way tie for first.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans are distancing themselves from the top pick with two consecutive victories.

The hottest team is Washington. The Redskins are making a mid-season push for that No. 1 pick with four consecutive losses. San Francisco is nipping at the 'Skins' heels. After opening 3-1, the 49ers have lost four consecutive games to fall to 3-5.

Onto the standings through nine weeks:

T-1. Cleveland Browns (1-7)
Detroit Lions (1-7)
Kansas City Chiefs (1-7)
St. Louis Rams (1-7)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-7)

T-6. Oakland Raiders (2-6)
Tennessee Titans (2-6)
Washington Redskins (2-6)

T-9. Buffalo Bills (3-5)
Carolina Panthers (3-5)
Miami Dolphins (3-5)
San Francisco 49ers (3-5)
Seattle Seahawks (3-5)

I don't think we should want the higher pick, given our track record since '99. In fact, Cleveland has the lowest percentage of remaining first round picks left on the current roster in the NFL. http://dneckel.blogspot.com/2009/11/browns-1st-rd-futility.html
