Who Dey? Naw, how 'bout Who Dat!

Saints Fans By Don Delco
NoLogoNeeded.com Staff Writer

Tonight’s Monday Night Football game pits the 7-3 New England Patriots against the undefeated New Orleans Saints. Let’s just say ESPN is covering this game with a little more enthusiasm than a few weeks ago with the Browns-Ravens tilt.

Ed Werder has been camped out on Poydras Street since last Tuesday.

So what does this have to do with the Cleveland Browns? For the last few weeks, as the Browns season continues to be a lost cause, I was not ready to give up professional football this season. So, I wanted to get a discussion going on what team's bandwagon should Browns fans hop on.

Earlier today, WaitingForNextYear got the ball rolling with its suggestion to join the Bengals’ bandwagon.

I vehemently disagreed.

My bandwagon selection: The New Orleans Saints.

New Orleans, along with Minnesota, look to be the class of the NFC. No doubt, the Saints will be among the competitors in the final weekends of the NFL season.

If you haven’t watched a Saints game this season, tune in tonight. It’s the exact opposite of a Browns game. It’s an enjoyable experience. The offense is exciting, it makes plays down field, the defense is opportunistic and there is actual talent on the field.

Aside from the play on the field, tonight’s atmosphere will be like a big-time college game. It’s “Black Out” night in the Louisiana Superdome and it should be rocking.

So why jump on the Saints bandwagon?

A year ago at this time, I spent three days in New Orleans soaking up the food, music and culture. I instantly fell in love with the city, it’s warts and all.

Unfortunately, I did not attend a Saints game, but talking with the residents and observing my surroundings, their love for their football team ran parallel to the fans in northeast Ohio.

In fact, today, the New Orleans City Hall, which is located near the Superdome, will close at 3 p.m. for the game.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com:

“There are plenty of great football towns, but the celebratory buildup to a big Saints game that envelops the entire city is unique.  And a lot of fun. (Green Bay has to be the most similar.)”

I can only imagine Cleveland will be like this in the future when the Browns return to being an elite AFC team. (Hey, a guy can dream, right?)

So, why pull for the Saints in 2009?

The Saints have never played in the Super Bowl. The Saints and their fans suffered through numerous losing seasons since their inaugural season in 1967. The team has been rumored in recent years to be on the move, which has since subsided thanks to the team signing a new Superdome lease earlier this year.

Notice any similarities?

Most people I’ve met who also have visited New Orleans enjoyed their time. It is time this city makes news for something other than Hurricane Katrina, muffalettas or music.

Consider No Logo Needed an honorary member of "Who Dat Nation" for the remainder of this season.

Geaux Saints!

Editor's note: Katrinahelp.com was founded by Kevin Caruso and it offers a complete list of charities associated with New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina. There is still plenty to do for those who still would like to help in the relief effort. While the touristy areas have since been cleaned up of any remnants of a hurricane, there are still plenty of areas and — more importantly — people that need help. In this holiday season, if you're looking to give to charities, do not forget New Orleans.

I added the Saints as my NFC team after week 5 this year; I must say, Browns losses hurt a lot less when you chase them with dominant Saints wins.

Can we start an organization in Cleveland who's goal is to clean up the mess left by Hurricane Eric?

OH OK lets all become frontrunners! Does the Browns current misfortunes really bother you THAT much? Is your life somehow less complete? Turn in your BB card. You are a fake my friend. Move to NO and write about the Aints. Oh by the way, when the fans were wearing those bags over their heads in the superdome not so long ago, the City of New Orleans was just as appealing.

I can see where you're coming from. The Saints are one team I wouldn't mind seeing win a Super Bowl. Until it happens. Then I will despise them, especially if they remain one of the top teams and return to the Super Bowl in the near future.

It's kind of like the Red Sox in '04 trying to break the 86 year "curse." Everyone was pulling for them, it was easy to jump on the bandwagon. Then they won. Now they're the new Yankees, and I want them to lose all of their games.

Right now, I'd just like to see good, competitive games for the playoffs and Super Bowl, regardless of who wins (as long as it's not the Bengals/Steelers/Ravens).

Relax, Greg.

I'm just saying if you want to get some enjoyment out of the remainder of the NFL season, why not also pull for the Saints on Sundays? It would be a feel-good story if they won the Super Bowl, no?

No one is giving up their love of being a Browns fan around these parts.

You know I skewered you for jumping on the Quin bandwagon and I need you to apologize...For the love of god give it a rest....Quinn stinks plain and simple. There where whispers about his accuracy coming out of ND, and that is why he dropped in the draft. You guys want Quinn to be the guy so bad that it is blinding reality. Quinn, or the obsession with Quinn is the reason this team took steps backwards after 07 instead of forward. He should have been traded then, the team should have built around DA and if DA did not work out then they would hbave had a talented team for the next QB. Instead they gave up a ton to get Quinn, he can't play, and there is no way to recoup what was lost. Trading Quinn after the 07 season may have brought some help on defense, but instead we gave up a second rounder and spent a first rounder on a guy who can not play. They would have to dumber than they have been over the years to give Quinn another year. He is not a rookie, he has had three years of meetings, scouting reports, practices and coaching and this is where he is. Give it a rest already.....geez.....

Tony, who is talking about Quinn in this post about the Saints?

Traitor. And to think I have to live with you. You're making your own dinner tonight.

point taken, didnt mean to jump down your throat, but out here in Ca (some of the most fickle fans alive) it is a challenge to be a Browns fan and there are a LOT of front runners (people that secretly switch teams if things arent going well for a coupleyrs) It can be humorous
