The Race of No. 1 (?)

Well, well. It looks as if the Browns created a small cushion between themselves and the race for the 2010 NFL Draft's No. 1 overall selection. A 13-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 10 dropped the Browns one game behind what has now become a two-horse race.

The St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were thoroughly dominated last Sunday as each team remained with one victory.

In order to remain in first, the Rams allowed Tennessee running back Chris Johnson to run, run, run and run some more all afternoon as his 186 yards and three touchdowns from scrimmage led the Titans to a 47-7 win.

Also, in an almost blatant attempt to lose, the Rams handed the starting job to quarterback Keith Null. Null finished 27-for-43 passing for 157 yards and five touchdowns. Null is a proud graduate of West Texas A&M, the same school where Chaun Thompson was a linebacker for a winless team, Scott Bakula was a signal caller and Kathy Ireland was a place kicker. Wait, I think I may be confusing West Texas A&M with the Texas State Armadillos from "Necessary Roughness."

Moving on.

The Jets attempted 42 rushes for 175 yards in a 26-3 win over the Bucs. The reason the Bucs lost? Rookie quarterback Josh Freeman was the team's leading passer (14-for-33 for 93 yards and 3 picks) and leading rusher (21 yards on four attempts).

Three games remain as four teams are in the mix for the No. 1 pick.

T-1. St. Louis Rams (1-12)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-12)

T-3. Cleveland Browns (2-11)
Detroit Lions (2-11)
