Before we know it the draft will be upon us. Here at No Logo Needed are going to be doing our Mock Draft Among Blogs again this year. For those of you that don't know, we reached out and found the best blogs (in our opinion) from the other 31 teams in the NFL. We will do a two-round mock draft leading up to the real draft in April. We figure why do a mock draft and try to guess what the Texans are going to do when the guy that covers that Texans knows better? Get it? Good.
Here are my thoughts after last years draft. I still don't know which side of the fence I am on, but after one season I would have to give the draft a C-. The Browns did get four starters out of the draft, but the misses were HUGE. Hopefully, this year will be better with the Big Show in town and GM Tom Heckert having a solid draft record. I will leave the quarterback talk to fellow NLN writer Brandon Rastok who has a post regarding where the Browns may go on with that debacle.
As for 2010, I think most people are in agreement that the Browns need to shore up the defense.
The names at the top of the list for me are:
Eric Berry - Safety, Tennessee Berry's Highlight Video
Joe Haden - Cornerback, Florida Haden's Highlight Video
Rolando McClain - MLB, Alabama McClain's Highlight Video
In my opinion, if Eric Berry is there you take him. He reminds me a lot of Ed Reed. Berry is always around the football. Chances are Berry will be gone by pick seven and the Browns to choose between Haden and McClain. I am really torn because both will be very good pro players and the Browns need help at linebacker and corner in a bad way.
Haden is the right pick here, not just because Brandon McDonald was a cautionary tale most of the year, but because the Browns need a shut down corner more than a linebacker.
I know I have been talking about the need for a linebacker for two years, but here is my rationale. It is a simple lesser of two evils. Barton and Jackson are serviceable, but McDonald is a train wreck. Taking Haden should shore up the corner position for years to come. He has great feet, good hands and tackles well. It solves a problem that cannot be addressed in the later rounds, whereas safety Chad Long from LSU or a linebacker Sean Weatherspoon from Missouri will both be there when the Browns pick at No. 38.
I want to give all of you some homework for the weekend. Watch the Senior Bowl Saturday at 2 p.m. on the NFL Network. If you don't have the NFL Network go to a bar, which you should be doing anyway (it is the weekend).
If you want to have a good grasp on the guys that are going to be picked from the third round on, this is a good starting point to get up to speed. Most of the big name guys do not play in the Senior Bowl because they have nothing to prove, but the guys that do play, they have everything to prove.
Here are the rosters for the North and South.
Here is a list of notables to keep your eye on with highlights (if I could find them).
North Team
LeGarrette Blount 6-2 240 Oregon Running Back (Highlight)
Dan LeFevour 6-3 238 Central Michigan Quarterback (Highlight)
Mike Iupati 6-6 325 Idaho Guard (Highlight)
Koa Misi 6-3 263 Utah Linebacker (Breakdown)
Daryl Washington 6-3 234 TCU Linebacker (Highlight)
Sean Wetherspoon 6-2 250 Missouri Linebacker (Highlight)
Sam Young 6-8 320 Notre Dame Tackle (Breakdown)
Brandon Ghee 6-0 190 Wake Forest Cornerback (Highlight)
South Team
Terrance Cody 6-4 370 Alabama Defensive Line (Highlight)
Riley Cooper 6-3 214 Florida Wide Receiver (Highlight)
Perrish Cox 5-11 190 Oklahoma State Cornerback (Highlight)
Taylor Mays 6-3 231 USC Safety (Highlight)
Myron Rolle 6-1 217 Florida State Safety (Highlight)
George Selvie 6-4 247 South Florida Defensive End (Highlight)
No Logo Needed will have our thoughts on the Senior Bowl up for everyone to check out over the weekend. Be sure to check back.
Also, give us your thoughts on who you think the Browns should pick and where.

The CZAR watches and listens intently but does not speak.
What is the CZAR thinking?
When will he reveal his thoughts to the assembled masses?
What will the CZAR do?
When will the CZAR act?
Long live the CZAR!
I love McClain but I would be more than satisfied to snag Brandon Spikes or Terrance Cody in round 2. Not too excited about Weatherspoon.
Haiden seems the right pick. My nightmare is if both Berry and Haiden are gone at #7 In which case the browns will be best served to swing a trade down a few spots to go after McClain I suppose.
I was hoping a Mike Iupati could fall to us in the 2nd but it doesn't look that way anymore so a name like Ryan Mathews is starting to look good there
If Myron Rolle or Javier Arenas falls to us in the third round, I would jump for joy.
the 4th and 5th round picks are where I would look for linebackers though I'd love to hear Jimmy Graham's name called in the 5th round.
We can't draft McClain he stands up way to high looks like a middle school linbacker almost every play he is higher then the blocker he is coming off of He will get destoryed in the pros
It is moronic to say players are busts after 1 year. It shows a complete lack of knowledge on how you develop players. Must be some young kid from the "I want it now generation".
@ BrownsFan4Life
I don't believe I called anyone a bust, but I will say Veikuhne is a bust now that you mention it.
I think developing players is very important and in order to do that they have to be on the field at some point, playing special teams or filling in for guys that get dinged up. Veikuhne was a healthy scratch for almost every game this year. We lost 2 of our 4 starting linebackers and Veikuhne didn't even sniff the field.
I categorize him as a HUGE miss only because of the players we passed up that could have helped us in 2009.
I think all of us want it now, but I do understand developing guys. The problem isn't the fans, it is the pressure to win in the NFL. Those guys want it now and do not have time to develop guys that are going to take 3 years to get up to speed. That is the reason freshman and sophmores aren't eligible for the draft. The NFL doesn't have a minor league to babysit these guys and when they are brought into camp they need to prove that they can hang with the big boys.
BROWNS 2010 Checklist
I've taken much time looking over this years draft. I think I've found value in every pick, and addresed every major need the Browns currently have. With these upgrades this will be a true test for Quinn to see if he is our long-term QB or not.
1. Get a new O.C.
2. Put Rubin at NT, Rogers and (Peters) at DE. OLB's Wimbley and (Peppers), ILB's D'Qwell and Roth.
3. Free agency- WR (Boldin, Owens, or Brandon Marshall). Trade Williams for a pick or player. OLB/DE Julius Peppers, he wants to play in a 3-4. What a huge impact he would make as a stand up OLB.
4. Draft-1st round CB Haden, UF.
2nd round RT Charles Brown, USC.
3rd round LG John Jerry, MISS and FS Kam Chancellor, VT.
4th Round ILB Micah Johnson, KEN.
5th round SS Kurt Coleman, OSU and RG Brandon Carter and RB
Blount, ORE.
6th round DE Corey Peters, KEN and WR Freddie Barnes, BG.
7th round QB Ryan Perrilloux.
5. Pay Josh Cribbs!!!! Re-sign D'Qwell Jackson, Jerome Harrison, Lawrence Vickers, Evan Moore and Matt Roth.
One glaring omission from the list of Senior Bowl players is CB Kyle Wilson. He doesn't get as much hype being from Boise State, but he is the real deal.
That said, if LB and CB are our first two picks, I'd rather have McClain and Wilson than Haden and Spikes.
Check out the Big Shows drafting and you will see that he is rated a little above bad. We will probably pick Hayden since Berry and Bradford will probably be gone.
Craig's right. Watch the video. At every point of attack McClain plays too upright which, in college, might float, but in the pros he'll get lifted too much and be taken out of plays too often. Plus he had Terrence Cody clogging the lanes in front of him and his pursuit speed seems pro-iffy. If three of a Jackson, Barton, Roth and Bowens combo can stay healthy than there's no urgency to address the position, but behind Eric Wright the depth chart gets murky and Joe Haden projects as no worse than a number two in the NFL.
Haden has great speed, is good in run support and general tackling, and at Florida showed he is capable of making big plays. He's, at this point, the only shutdown corner prospect in the draft, and the Browns have sorely lacked a playmaker like him in the defensive backfield since reentering the league.
The team can afford to address the linebacking corps in round two, and I hope Sean Weatherspoon lasts that long. He's got the athletic tangibles desired and is is a fiery guy that, perhaps in a few years, the defense can rally behind once he settles in to the pace of the pro game.
How can you write a blog and claim it to be legit when you don't even know the names of players you're talking about. Chad Jones is the safety at LSU, no idea who Chad Long is, and if the Browns take him with their 2nd rounder, I will throw up. Myron Rolle will be their in the 3rd round, and he is an absolute beast. Berry or Haden obviously makes sense at 7, but they need to think RT or linebacker with the 2nd pick, maybe Brandon Spikes from Florida. 3rd round, they should be looking for Rolle and maybe LeFevour with both picks.
Chances are Berry will be gone by pick seven and the Browns to choose between Haden and McClain. I am really torn because both be very good pro players and the Browns need help at linebacker and corner in a bad way.
Dude - you need an editor!
If your looking for a solid linebacker that may be a total steal in the 3rd rd, maybe 2nd...its going to be Rennie Curran out of Georgia, his only knock is that he's a bit small in 5'11" i think.....but whomever grabs him is going to be pretty lucky!
Patario,
Thanks anyone who played any type of ball can see that is a huge huge nono on drafting Mclain. Also, theses plays are what were selected by someone to be his HIGHLIGHT takes. In college you can get away even at a high D-I with a 385 bench and a bad skill set (belive me I know this) yet, not in the pros you need a 385 bench linbakcer with a sound skill set as well. I say give are 1st round pick for 2 2nd round picks.
