The Jaguars GM, Gene Smith just
signed defensive end Aaron Kampman in free agency and in doing so, took steps to shore up
the defensive line. This leaves the Jaguars free at the draft to avoid a
desperation choice.
Smith has promised “Best Available Player” drafting and there are four to choose from at this point: Dan Williams DT Tennessee, Joe Haden CB Florida, C.J. Spiller RB Clemson and Rolando McClain LB Alabama.
All
are fantastic choices.
With the 10th pick of the 2010 Mock Draft Among Blogs, the Jaguars select:
***Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama***
Rolando McClain has been an impressive college player with Alabama. After watching Florida carve up Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl, you appreciate how good Alabama was on defense. Unquestionably the leader in the defense, Rolando led the way with 53 solo tackles in 2009. The Jaguars gave up considerable yardage after first contact last year. With the instinctive play and awareness of McClain, the Jaguars have a leader who can inspire them with his own play. The Jaguars need this type of leadership.
Rolando McClain simply has the best resume to step in and make a difference immediately. Placing Rolando on the outside allows him to get to the passer. Placing him on the inside allows Justin Durant to play outside. The Jaguars will have a lot of options with Rolando McClain and also a leader who can get them back to defensive prominence again.
The Denver Broncos, and its representative Bronco Talk, are on the clock.
