2010 Mock Draft Among Blogs

Pick No. 18: Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers By Donald Starver
Steelers Today

Steeler Nation is going to hate me for this pick.  And I understand their concerns.

Last year, the Steelers defensive backfield was atrocious.  Sure, Troy Polamalu was hurt.  But that doesn't excuse the horrendous play that ensued.  The Steelers' cornerbacks did not record their first interception until the final game of the season.  Moreover, opposing cornerbacks seemed to average 500 yards per game against our secondary.

But despite all of that, the Steelers did draft 2 cornerbacks last season.  I can't see drafting another one this season.  At least not in the 1st round.  Joe Haden looks quite appealing.  He was almost a unanimous pick among my readers.  But Nose tackle is the most difficult position to find in the draft, and the best one just fell into our laps.

With the 18th pick of the 2010 Mock Draft Among Blogs, the Pittsburgh Steelers select:

***Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee***

Nose tackle is the most difficult position to find in the draft, and the best one just fell into our laps.  So despite overwhelming sentiment for Joe Haden, I had to take Williams.

Williams will back up Casey Hampton this year and have no pressure to start.  That will allow him to develop at his own pace.  Then he can eventually step in and be the Steelers' NT for the next decade.

The Atlanta Falcons, and its representative,
The Falcoholic, are on the clock.

Picking Williams makes a lot of sense to me. I like it. Both Hampton and Hoke are getting up there in age. And as you said, it's hard to find quality nose tackles.

Its obvious that Rothesburger is getting punch-drunk from all of the sacks he's endured. The guard Iuipati would have been a better choice in my opinion.

is Haden having a Brady moment? Is it because of his 40 time? This is damn good television...
