Browns Banter
Quinn, Wimbley head west
By Don Delco
NoLogoNeeded.com StaffWe've been speculating at No Logo Needed that Browns President Mike Holmgren hasn't been sold on quarterback Brady Quinn. Turns out we were right.
Quinn was traded to the Denver Broncos on Sunday for fullback Peyton Hillis, a sixth-round pick in 2011 and a conditional draft choice in 2012.
"I appreciate everything Brady did for us last year and in his three seasons with the Cleveland Browns," said Browns coach Eric Mangini in a statement released by the team. "He is professional in the way he goes about doing his job and worked extremely hard at every aspect of his game. I wish him the best of success in Denver."
The Browns weren't done. Scout.com broke the news that Kamerion Wimbley was traded to the Oakland Raiders and ESPN's Chris Mortensen said the Browns received a third-round draft pick in return. Cleveland now has three picks that round.
Regarding the Quinn trade. Denver gave up nothing to get Quinn, although Hillis is the type of player Mangini loves. Hillis can do a lot of things. He can catch a pass out of the backfield. He can spell Jerome Harrison at running back or Lawrence Vickers at fullback. He can play special teams. He's a military guy and a hard worker. According to the Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot, he is a fan favorite in Denver.
As for the Wimbley trade, we might be seeing the beginning of the Jason Trusnik era.
The Browns may be far from done. Daniel Jeremiah, a former Ravens and Browns scout who now writes for MoveTheSticks.com, Tweeted:
@MoveTheSticks I would imagine Lawrence Vickers will be the next Brown to get traded. One of the best lead FBs in the league. Not a perfect west coast FB
So it has been a busy weekend for the Browns. We'll have reaction on what's going on regarding Delhomme, Quinn, Wimbley and anyone else who will be shown the door in the coming days.
For now, what are your thoughts on the deals and the upheaval in Berea? Feel free to leave a comment, we'd love to hear from you and get some discussions going.

I'm sorry to see Brady go, at this point. I'd rather have him and/or Troy Smith, fighting it out with Seneca Wallace. Paying Jake $7 million is a head scratcher.
However, we wanted action... and we're getting it... Wow! Let's hope Mike's on the right track.
Firstly, it seems like J.D's contract is nearly all incentive based sans 900K. So that move is not as stupid as it would indicate at first blush. Quinn's problem was a lack of accuracy and no mid to long term game. 12 or 100 starts, the accuracy was probably not going to improve. Everyone is scrathing their heads over these moves, but the fact was that we were a 4 win team last year. Overhaul is quite possible the route to go. If we pick up a nice reciever and load up on some talent in the draft, I see us being more competitive than last year.
Trading Brady Quinn was the right thing to do for both him and the Browns. The fan base and entire organization
needs a fresh start. No more summer-long auditions are welcomed.
Maybe the Browns can get out of the gate quickly and keep peoples' hopes of a winning season beyond the first four games.
Hopefully, starts and restarts are a thing of the past 11 seasons and three regimes.
Well they have said that this draft is deep with talent and we sure have the picks now....I wish Quinn would have been given a real chance to succeed here but the fact is he didnt. I just hope he doesnt pull any Elway stuff on us down the road! With that said, I do not want to see the Browns mortgage the stadium on Bradford nor do I want Clausen anywhere near our backfield. Ive said it since his first year in the backfield, McCoy is going to be a player in this league for years and I hope we take him in the 2nd. GO BROWNS!
Come on with that BQ wasn't given a chance crap. DA did more in his first few games than BQ did. He was given his chance.
I, for one, am quite excited to see the new Browns this up coming season.
Nice to see a complete lack of negative comments here, as compared to the rabid Quinn lovers on the CPD site. I think these Holmgren-Heckert moves are a step in the right direction! I would not be too pleased with Bradford or Clausen as the pick; would prefer someone in rounds 2 or 3.
James, did I ever mention anything about DA? Like Maestro said, no negative comments here and when I see people talk about BQ and DA they always have to get their panties in a bunch. It's over and you should prob. get over your hatred for BQ. I am excited to see what the future holds for the Browns to! As a season ticket holder, it's my money that pays for these learning lessons at QB each year. Anyways, when a QB has 3 different OC's and 2 different head coaches in 3 years, was named the starter for the season after a back and fourth QB comp where reps were split AND THEN pulled after playing the a very good Vikings, Broncos and Ravens defense to start the year...yeah...I guess your correct. He was given a fair chance........
Hopefully this Delhome experiment works for a season or two and the Browns get a good qb in the draft. Like I said earlier, id love to see McCoy in the 2nd.
Crazy wicked moves dropin from The Show yo! I have the distinct feeling I'm watching the beginning of a Bob Ross painting. That big blob of orange and brown crap in the corner is about to transform into a mountain sunset overlooking a beautiful azure lake with happy little clouds.
Redskins have a talented QB on the practice squad. He played college ball at Hawaii and ran June Jones' offense to perfection. He would fit Holmgren's offensive system. And Hillis played and thrived under Shanahan in Denver. Hillis and a few draft picks might be enough to get Colt.
